Translating The Final Exam


1.  Do you feel you get a changing in learning Foundation of Translating? Write what you get of changing!
Answer: Yes of course, I get a changing in learning Foundation  of Translating such as:
-     Now, I know what different and the usage of English word that have same meaning base on the context, for example the usage of “ can”.
-     Before study foundation of translating, sometimes I use word for word to translate sentence, but  now I use free translation to do it.
-     I can choose the meaning of words or sentences in many condition, not only based on the dictionary.
-     I know the model of translaton process.
-     I know the problems of translation. There are fifth problems dealing with culture:
a.  Ecological Problem, for examples: celincing, jengkol, cecenet, kapas. Another example is Komodo, the word komodo in phrases as like as komodo is translated lizard, but komodo more bigger than lizard.
b.  Socio Culture problem, for examples: uwa, mamang which means uncle, bukde which means aunt.
c.   Material Culture problem, for example: the word notebook which mean buku catatan.
d.  Religious Culture problem, for examples: koko, gamis, bedug, etc. Another example the word God is translated into Tuhan either in Islam, Christian or Chatolic,  while in Hindu and Budha it translated into Dewa.
e.  Language Culture problem, for examples: ngguyu, nyengir, ngakak in english laugh.


2.  How can we produce a good translation, explain it!
Answer : We can produce a good translation by:
1.  Analyze the source document to be translated. We should explore and understand what the document is about.
2.  Find out the dictionaries, references and glossaries about the topic of the documents to be translated. we can find these by browsing relevant topics in the internet.
3.  Proofread and edit the translated documents. It is better that the proofreading and editing be done by another translator. If not possible, the translator can do another job or take a rest first before proofreading the translation to refresh your minds. It is advisable not to proofread and edit your translation directly after you complete it.

3.  Look for one case about translation problem and also its solution, except in cultural problem!
Answer :  Ecological Problem. The ecological problem deals with nature, plants, creature, etc. The ecological problem occours because of the difference of creature in the world, either anials or plants. The problem is how to translate the name of things which exists in a certain place, but does not exist in another, for example : Komodo, the word komodo in phrases as like as komodo is translated lizard, but komodo more bigger than lizard. Another examples is the word Orang Utan as like as ape, Limus as like as manggo, cecenet as like as cherry.
